It's not a great solution (from the Israeli point of view) exactly because, as you say The problem is that Palestinians identify themselves as a distinct people.

Since Israel is a democracy, if they became the majority, they would run the country. The first thing to go would be the name Israel. The second thing to go would be the property now in the hands of current Israelis into the hands of Palestinians. The third thing to go would be all the Jews.

I don't think the Israelis are inclined to lay down and hand the keys to their country to their enemies without a fight.

But maybe you know the situation better than I. There is after all that mystery treasure under the sands of Gaza.
