So said Prime Minister Ariel Sharon last night, after the Fatah/Tanzim head was caught and arrested yesterday in Ramallah, not far from Arafat's compound, in a joint IDF-GSS effort. The arrest of Barghouti is considered a major accomplishment, as he was responsible for turning the Fatah movement into a terrorist organization that caused many Israeli deaths over the past months. A member of the Palestinian legislature, he founded the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade, which was recently outlawed by the U.S. and which is responsible for killing scores of Israelis. Among his financial sources was Yasser Arafat, who personally authorized many funds later used by Barghouti for terror attacks. Among his murderous exploits the IDF counts the following: * the shooting attack at a Bar Mitzvah in Hadera this past January in which six Israelis were murdered; * the murder of a Greek Orthodox monk on the highway to Maaleh Adumim last June; * the shooting spree in downtown Jerusalem the same month in which two women were killed; * three attacks in February in which two Israelis were murdered and two policemen were wounded; * the murder of three Jews at a Tel Aviv restaurant, and many other attempted human-bomb murder attempts. Uriel Lynn, former Chairman of Knesset Law Committee, told Arutz-7 today that the fact that Barghouti is a political figure "has no relevance to his eligibility to be tried in a court of law. His political does not grant him any immunity, as the Palestinian Authority is not a state, according to international law - and even if it was, state officials who are responsible for murders in the State of Israel are liable to stand trial in Israel. The same is true for Arafat as well; Israeli law allows us to make them stand trial. The only reason we are not doing so is for political considerations, which I don't deny must be taken into consideration." In addition to Barghouti and his top aide - the two were arrested together - some ten other terrorists have been caught in the past day by Israeli forces. These included: * Nasser Yatima, one of the planners of the Pesach Seder Massacre in Netanya, who was apprehended near Jenin; * Walid Jabar, the murderer of Maryk Gabrielov of Beit Shemesh over a year ago, who was caught in Bitin; * two Palestinian Front for the Liberation of Palestine snipers who had been wanted for killing reserve soldier Yaakov Krenchel outside a Shomron village a year ago.
