Duke - we see this misconception time and time again, by people who have apparently never been involved in a complex legal proceeding. These are not abstract searches for truth, but rather a selected search for specific information, applied against very well-defined rules. Jerry's testimony as the head of one of the major companies likely to be affected by any settlement is credible. I agree that he was wise to not read any of the proposed settlement terms, as he is then freed from any obligation to comment on them and greatly reduces the scope of potential topics on cross.
