One speed grade higher than mobile Palomino." Actually, using desktop model number mapping (which I assume AMD will keep consistent this time in their mobile line), a 1700+ runs at 1.47GHz. Compare that to their .18u line, which allowed them to launch a 1.4GHz 1600+ processor only a few weeks ago. But the thing is - AMD will only have up to 1500+ .13u parts available to begin with, as 1600+/1700+ speeds will ship later in the quarter. This nearly validates my previous theory (as well as Elmer's, Yousef's, and others') that AMD would run short of frequency on their .13u process. Although I indeed believe that they will move forward given enough time, you can see that they are already having trouble meeting their roadmap goals that they stated - oh... - one month ago .home.attbi.com This roadmap shows 1900+ this quarter, followed by 2000+ and 2200+ later in the year. Previous roadmaps from last year even show 2400+ parts before the end of this year. It's clear that AMD overestimated themselves, or they ran into unpredictable problems, as these sliding roadmaps clearly show. And, if it's true that Barton will be made on bulk silicon, then AMD will have an even harder time of making those goals. It's unbelievable to me that AMD went from a fail safe mobile roadmap that should have left Intel in the dust, to something that is barely competitive, now that rumor has it that Intel will be able to reach 2GHz in mobile, well before the end of the year. I am very pleased that AMD has taken .13u manufacturing off the ground, but I hope to hear much more good news tomorrow about forward progress in this endeavor. They certainly have a ways to catch up. wbmw
