PR NEWSWIRE - April 17, 2002 09:02
LONDON, Apr 17, 2002 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Fonix(R) Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: FONX), a leading provider of natural-user interface technology solutions for wireless and mobile devices, Internet and telephony systems, and vehicle telematics, announced today at the Microsoft Mobility Developer Conference that Hewlett-Packard Corporation (NYSE: HWP) has licensed Fonix Speech Solutions, Text-To-Speech (TTS) and Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), for use in its new HP Jornada 928 Wireless Digital Assistant (WDA).

Fonix offers a voice-activated interface that enables users to use only their voices to access and call contacts with the mobile phone feature of their HP Jornada 928 WDA. With Fonix Speech Solutions, HP Jornada 928 WDA users in the U.K., and French- and German-speaking countries, will be able to quickly access contacts and safely place telephone calls by speaking the name or telephone number of the person they wish to call hands-free, without having to view the WDA display, creating a practical and easy way to make calls.

"Because HP is leading the way with the first speech-enabled WDA that allows a user to place calls safely and simply using voice commands, we selected Fonix, one of the world's leading speech technology companies, to provide us with its high-quality Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) and Text- To-Speech (TTS) applications," said Emmanuel Klotz, HP Jornada Europe Business Manager. "HP customers will now experience the freedom and ease that voice- activated dialing offers."

"Now people on the go in all aspects of their lives -- be it home, office, or traveling, will be able to stay connected and productive with quick and easy access to critical data anytime," said Kurt W. Flygare, Fonix Vice President of Sales. "The HP Jornada 928 WDA provides an excellent platform for the deployment of Fonix multiple language ASR and TTS. It will now be even easier to place calls safely and quickly."

Fonix Speech Solutions, in U.K. English, French, or German, will speak directly to the user, requesting the information needed to place the call. With the use of a headset, users can easily place calls hands-free, without needing to view or manipulate the WDA, using Fonix speaker-independent ASR.

Fonix Speech Solutions will come pre-loaded in the ROM on the HP Jornada 900 series wireless digital assistant products known as the HP Jornada 900 series running on a TI OMAP(TM) Processor CPU; using Microsoft Windows for Pocket PC operating system.

The HP Jornada 928 WDA, with Fonix Speech Solutions, will be available to the European general public in retail outlets in the late second quarter of 2002.

MICROCAP HEAVEN --- FONX up 400% this year, up again today. Once they do an R/S this could really do well. Too many shares outstanding and too low a price to attract the really buying, but you can't argue with the numbers.

Select microcaps are a great part of anyone's portfolio, some have great products like FONX and many, especially for their share price, are fundamentally sound investments. Much more sane than you think, since GE and VRTS can drop 15-30% in a couple weeks or less.

TWO FUNDAMENTALLY SOUND AND UNDERVALUES MICROCAPS (IMHO)
HQNT (profitable, vitually debt-free ---- was $7.00 two years ago, now 65 cents) recently hired fromer Senior VP of Freddie Mac to market their medical software products). New software product expected to bring $5M net or 20 cents EPS to the bottom line (see recenbt PR). This one requires a long term hold, IMHO. I just socked some away until it gets discovered. Worth DD-ing! Shares O/S only about 25M with less than 4M in true float, 12M total. Could earn well over 20-25 cents over the next 16 months based on pre-orders of new software. Worth DD-ing.

CMPT (intelligent servers for Fortune 100 and secure e-commerce, partner has deal with Orbitz.com ---- over $10M in sales last year ----stock near 52 week low at 63 cents). This one could run back up sooner and is well down from its 52 week high near $2. Just needs attention as news has been good and consistent lately. Very tightly held supposedly by major investors.

BOTTOM LINE - I believe one has to be select buyers and many are not "flippers" (i.e you have to be patient with them). At least there aren't Pro Forma earnings problems. Also, I believe the manipulation is often far less and they do well usually starting around tax refund time.
