Original? Nah, the bloviating pundits were onto that particularly deep and edifying newspeak neologism early on. First references here, according to SI's not entirely reliable search engine: #reply-16490469 , #reply-16498664 , with attached bloviations.

Making up a a unifying political/religious philosophy for the Arab/Muslim world is undeniably convenient for those advocating a broad war against the whole of that world, but it seems dubious on the face of it when 2 of the biggest boogieman countries, Iraq and Syria, are governed by spinoffs from the secular Baath party. Assad and Saddam no doubt find it convenient to pretend to be Islamic, I'm not sure why we should be validating those pretensions though.
