C'mon John , a little intellectual honesty is called for here--the discussion I was commenting on dealt with a specific issue, i.e., the claim that there are qualitative differences between AQ and the Palestinian terror. No need to drag in old canards like Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Dresden.

I will define the point I wish to argue all by myself, if you don't mind. And it is that there is little to differentiate AQ and the Palestinian bombers. Means, methods, justifications, and goals are utterly analogous. One is simply a twin of the other. All that changes is the geography and the targets.

The goal of the Islamofascists [with a nod to Bilow for smithing such a wonderful word], as I see it, are the same when it is distilled to its essence--the elimination of Western culture. Moreover, the methods are completely analogous. Finally, the Palestinians justify their terror on the basis of the Israeli occupation, a justification which is identical conceptually to AQ's-- the liberation of Arabia from the defilement of the Holy Places caused by the "Crusader" presence.
