S+L debacle - blame to go around but a bill Reagan happily signed with full support of his big Texas-Dixie soft-money donors. His administration covered it up so long it ended up costing us much-much more than necessary. Donald Regan was the chief "corrupt cop" telling regulators not to report bad news or they'd be fired. Meanwhile the worst damage was done by Texas S+L's, with Charles Keating and Silverado bringing up the rear, Silverado a Bush connection. But one corrupt Louisiana judge involved is now Teddy Kennedy's father-in-law. Can't blame his daughter though. Dem Speaker Wright had to resign, but for every democrat to blame there were about 3-4 republicans. The S+L hogs gave about 75% of their soft money to the GOP because the GOP stood for dergulation as a part of their platform. You can say that's a coincidence, but who was in charge of the country then? Reagan primarily. He was a very dominant president back then. And who signed Garnes-St Germaine saying it would "unleash the spirit of American free enterprise"? RR again. The root cause.

Can argue all you like but can't deflect most of the blame on that one. In all the books I've read I don't remember Schumer's name coming up but he might have played a small role. Sure there were some Democrats. St. Germaine was a democrat. Alan Cranston's career was toppled by it.

Neil Bush is still out there scamming on his family name. Just like other untalented presidential brothers before him.
