The Dems ran the White House in the 90's and look at the results. Best economy we'll ever see probably. Full employment and great optimism. No big scandals (I consider Monica's BJ a big scandal except of the tabloid nature), no big wars, Carter was blind-sided by one big attack - by OPEC and oil prices. Get rid of oil (starting now, gradually, eventually) and get rid of that problem, for good. Carter also inherited the debt of the Vietnam War.
