By Vivien Lou Chen

Hampton, New Hampshire, April 17 (Bloomberg) -- Fisher Scientific International Inc., which makes laboratory supplies and equipment, said 2002 earnings will be about 3 cents a share higher than previously forecast because it's refinancing debt to save on interest expenses.

Fisher Scientific expects to earn $1.65 to $1.70 a share excluding costs related to the refinancing, up from its previous estimate of $1.62 to $1.67, said company spokeswoman Gia Oei.

Fisher Scientific, whose products and services are used by more than 350,000 customers worldwide, said it plans to issue $150 million in notes to help pay down $212 million in debt.

Fisher Scientific shares fell 30 cents to $28.05 in regular U.S. trading. They've dropped 25 percent in the past year. The news was announced after U.S. markets closed.
