I would say that the pilot issuing an SOS is more of a signal that it was a hijacking.

Like the pilot is heading towards a building by accident, what is he going to do, I know, get on the radio and issue an SOS.

More likely he set the transponder to hijack setting without the hijacker's knowledge.

Let's see, picture perfect day, one of the tallest concrete skyscrapers in the world, houses government offices, and it got hit by accident??
This is a weird one, IMO.
