To all, I had a great day yesterday at simulcast, including one dum-dum windfall. There was a race at Santa Anita where there were really 4 decent horses in a 12 entry field. One was a bit better than the others and went off at 9-5. I put it over the other 3 in an exacta wheel, not really checking the odds all that closely as I was hurried by the need to buy a bowl of soup. Well, the favorite won and one of my other picks finished second. Little did I know that the second place finisher had been ignored by the bettors and went off at 70-1. That was a $176 payoff where I was expecting $15 or so. Soup was great, too. <g> It is still better to be lucky than good.

I blew the longest grade one turf race in the US. I had the winner, but did not get the second place horse in my exotics on that one. It was one of my usual first, third, fourth exactas and trifectas. I don't know why they won't let me bet it that way.

All in all, I had a pretty good day and a lot of fun. Doiby Day is coming soon.
