Ted,

I think the haircut is due to the warning for Q2, which went from previous guidance of profit to at best breakeven.

<< based on their earnings numbers, I have to say that I am surprised at the haircut AMD got today. Was Sanders unusually rude? It doesn't make much sense........Intels numbers and guidance were not that much better, and at least it did not go down. >>

They basically warned that they won't be profitable in Q2. They said it will be difficult to gain any more share, and they think Hammer will now just be close to Intel. They're clearly behind on tbred, and have lost the competitive advantage with Intel. They said nothing that was really positive in the report except that flash might have bottomed (but we've heard that before, and they didn't predict it would get tons better, just that it wouldn't get much worse).

All in all, what was so good about the report. The future outlook looked pretty darn bleak to me. They maybe beat the numbers a little this time, but they still were in the red, so who really cares?
