Do the math. You're a slide-rule guy, aren't you? The U.S. is sitting on just 3 percent of the world's known oil reserves. Whether we expand drilling in Alaska ... or not ... won't alter our dependence on foreign oil.

Another inaccurate overgeneralization. The musicians' unions, the teachers' unions, the airline pilots associations, the communications workers, the IAFF ... yeah, they're all up in arms over this one. As far as I know, only the Teamsters (a mostly Republican union which, by the way, didn't support GWB in '00) spoke out vocally in favor of the Alaskan oil project.
