Just jumped back into WDC yesterday at 6.98 ahead of the earnings report (that's how confident I am). I think WDC's fundamentals will continue to improve as the retail upgrade cycle continues, and eventually as corporations begin to upgrad their equipment. Chart pattern looks solid as silver bar!!!!

Actually, if you make liberal use of the "ignore" feature, you can hi-pass useful info. My problem now is I've exhausted the 100 name limit they allow on the ignore list.

The reaction to the IBM/Hitachi news the past two days is puzzling to me. (and incidentally, turned out quite profitable, though stomach churning).

First, WDC gapped up and continued up to 7.48. Then it dropped yesterday, and kept going down today to 6.90. Then just as suddenly, it reversed upwards and closed at 7.49.

All that with no additional news. Needless to say, I sold yesterday at 7.48, bought back in today at 7.01, then sold at the end of the day at 7.48 again.

Sometimes the blind squirrel finds the nut, as they say.

I think the disk drives are safe to invest in, again.

Regards,

Sarmad

Hi Tom, Sarmad,
Here is Gus's take on the IBM/Hitachi deal, in his usual shy, equivocating manner<vbg>; from the EMC thread:

The second part is the sale of the IBM disk drive division ($3.0B to $3.8B a year) to Hitachi ($800M a year).
Everybody in the industry is quaking in their boots at the prospect of a money-losing IBM disk drive division
(current loss rate: $600M-$700M a year) being merged with a money-losing Hitachi disk drive division (current
loss rate: a gazillion yen a year) to create a very profitable disk drive juggernaut.

Huh?
