I agree with this sentiment but I've found it's hard to follow this advice. If you read something in your newspaper or on the web you would like to share with thread, decide to check out whether it's been posted since the last time you were on, only to discover you are 100 posts behind, the temptation is simply to post it. I've done that more than once.

The problem I've noticed is different: it's a kind of posting warfare. A lot of posts from one position lead to a lot of posts from another position which, in turn, causes more posts from the first position. I'm bothered by that but can't see any easy resolution. My own personal one is that I simply do a great deal of skimming these days. When there were fewer of these kinds of posts, I read each carefully and tried to comment if I thought I had something to say. Now I just do a great deal of first paragraph, first sentence reading.
