Who selected Ngo Dinh Diem as the first leader of South Vietnam?

Bao Dai.

Neither the United States nor South Vietnam agreed to the Accords, which were practically designed to favor the Communist regime.......

By the way, I do not think that it is correct to stipulate that we were imperialists when we practically forced the British and French to divest themselves of their empires, and only supported the French in Vietnam because the Viet Minh were Communists. Why should it have been preferable to have the Soviet Union become the imperial power in a united Vietnam? There were non- Communist nationalists, like Diem.......By '54, the French were a spent force, and the Accords were a way to withdraw gracefully........
