I've never used ebay but have heard a few stories lately. Currently in Canada there is a promotion going on certain cereal where you buy $3 boxes of cereal and get a coupon for a free movie theatre admission. People have been putting the coupons in lots of 5-10 or more on Ebay and are getting up to $7 each for them, despite the fact that stores everywhere seem to be packed with the cereal and the promotion has been widely advertised.

You have to beware of shills that run the price up by having more than one account and bidding against themselves to run the price up. Failing to wait till the last second to bid may cost you.

Looks as tho' SI posters don't bother with bargains on EBAY. Evidently, they're so astute with their investments, they don't mind paying the full price.

actual fact is, many many times eBay bidders overpay for
the items they are buying. In my hobby I see it all the time, a person could make some money just buying at well
known discounters (not even wholsesale) and selling for
full price - it's crazy.

I have overpaid myself, such as for an iPaq handheld.

You have to really really know what you are doing before
buying or selling anything on eBay - I often study a new
category for weeks before entering the fray
