SSI = WELFARE - NOT... I have 2 friends who worked steadily for over 30 years - one was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, the other with Lupus - they earned their disability benefits & any SSI coming to them (took them almost 2 years to be 'approved'). While my friend with cancer underwent chemo and other therapy, my other friend went through bankruptcy and almost lost her home. My friend with ovarian cancer died 3 months ago - she was on SSDI for 1.5 years. Pity SSA couldn't move a little faster - she might still be alive. Instead, she spent 2 of the last 3 1/2 years of her life fighting for disability benefits... Lorraine
