I am for drilling, but not now. Why not buy all of the cheap oil from Mid-East, while they are selling to us so cheaply. It will make much more sense to drill for this oil if (when) the price of oil is, let's say 5x what it is today in real dollars.

Let us suppose that over the coming 15 years, our petroleum consumption were to drop by, say, 25%. How would this affect your perspective.

Now, consider the ramping up of Honda & Toyota to produce hybrid autos for the US. Consider the developments in the area of fuel cells (which over the next few years, do nothing, but in 15 years will likely start to make a difference). Consider the use of superconductors for transmission lines (also likely to happen in 15 years).

The point is, oil could easily be much, much cheaper then than now.
