SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Singapore shares continued to lose steam by midday on Friday, dragged down by blue chips and techs on concerns over earnings in the United States.

At the lunch break, the key Straits Times Index was down 0.68 percent or 11.90 points at 1,735.64, off an initial high of 1,740.87.

Losers edged out gainers 137 to 109 in the broader market on moderate volumes of some 338 million shares.

"It's quiet today. The blue chips and techs are down because earnings in the United States have not followed through," a dealer with a Singapore brokerage said.

Stocks on Wall Street dipped after a weak forecast from tech bellwether Nokia Corp and software giant Microsoft Corp posted quarterly earnings at the low end of analyst estimates.

On the local bourse, Singapore Press Holdings> fell 1.71 percent to S$23.00 and Singapore Airlines lost 2.19 percent to S$13.40.

Venture Manufacturing, Singapore's largest electronics contract maker, was down 1.73 percent at S$17.00.
