>>>Here is a NYT piece on a country I am clueless about>>>

Lindy. Surely you must have heard of Sudan's most famous export, Manute Bol, better known as the Dunkin' Dinka; played 10 years in the NBA, went broke spending most of millions trying to help his tribesmen of south Sudan.

By coincidence, I just finished reading a paper written by a close relative, who has spent three of the last five years working in Sudan, summing up some of the humanitarian issues in that star-crossed country.

I'm unable to pull up the NYTimes piece but without seeing it, the mix of new oil riches, race, religion, sharia law, tribal conflicts, slavery, unstable central govt may take more than John Danforth's fine hand to settle.
