Last night I watched the PBS Wall Street Week while taping the first CNBC Rukeyser show. I then watched the Rukeyser tape. While the PBS show isn't the product they intend to produce with Fortune, it is worth noting that comparing the two was a stark contrast, at least for me. The PBS show was flat and relatively boring. Rukeyser's show had far more color and humor and the guests were major league (however much one might quibble with their records). Marty Zweig, as usual with his earthy style, was a plus. Also, the new Rukeyser set is far more roomy and airy than the stuffy, cramped old PBS set. I always felt claustrophobic watching the old show.

If last night was any indication of the next few weeks before the PBS/Fortune show gets wheels, there will be major defections as Rukeyser takes advantage of this window of opportunity. Comparatively speaking, Rukeyser routed PBS last night and I'm not a particular fan of his.

Just one viewer's opinion.
