Liar Dan, <To the degree that Intel had any gains at all in Q4, most or all were due to the inclusion of game console chips in their PC CPU count.>

This article contradicts you:

news.com.com

As a result, Intel claimed 80.6 percent of the PC market during the quarter, jumping two points from its third-quarter, 78.6 percent share. AMD, on the other hand, slid two points from 20.5 percent in the third quarter to 18.5 percent in the fourth quarter, according to Mercury.

Including Pentium III sales related to Microsoft's Xbox game console, Intel garnered 81.2 percent of the PC chip market in the fourth quarter, with AMD taking 18 percent. However, Xbox was a relatively small contributor in terms of additional units.

So Intel gained 2.0 points in marketshare without including XBox, and 2.6 points with XBox.

How quickly you forget history and come up with pure BS to cover.

Dan, Re: "To the degree that Intel had any gains at all in Q4, most or all were due to the inclusion of game console chips in their PC CPU count."

Wrong. Intel had more than 80% market share last year, even without including X-Box. Intel's CPU shipments were flat (still 34M), while AMD's improved by 200k. That gives AMD a 19% share of the market, even without X-Box.

Intel grabbed an 80.6% share of the PC market compared with AMD's 18.5% share, he said. If Intel processor sales for X-Box are included in the tally, Intel's market share was 81.2%, compared to 18% for AMD, he told EBN.

But if you want to include X-Box, then Intel's market share is even more.
