Opra Recommending Gold? (As part of a well diversified portfolio)

Just finished watching Opra. There was a Financial Advisor (FA) on there helping couples with various portfolios. Of course he mentioned the usual stuff (e.g. diversification, international exposure, real estate, DCA, having a will, life insurance, living benefits, etc); but I was taken aback when he mentioned that this couple should have 7.5% of their portfolio in gold/precious metals and natural resources.

It got a couple of mentions/recommendations from the FA. So who watches Opra? I guess we'll find out if there is a mad gold rush next week when all the Opra watchers (I dare not say that they are all women) rush out to buy gold & (natural resources) mutual funds as they rebalance their portfolios. Where was he 6-12 months ago?

This was a good show as far as I was concerned because I was channel surfing my way to the PGA golf when I stopped to watch a "whole hour of Opra, even the commercials". Then when he mentioned the word gold in the program, I had to see what he did for the other couples. We will see if the water cooler conversation goes next week, "this guy on Opra is suggesting that we diversify into some gold and natural resources.
