Hi h0db; Re: "Hey carl, what the heck is up with this? I thought Intel wasn't going to support PC1066 or the new RIMM4200 packaging."

(1) I haven't said that Intel "wasn't going to support PC1066". The fact is that the 850 already "supports" PC1066, if you overclock it. But there are no PC1066 compatible cards listed on the Intel web site. I'll be surprised if they ever show up there. But it could happen. I haven't made a "prediction" about this, just my expectation. See, for example: #reply-17310685

(2) I haven't said that Intel "wasn't going to support RIMM 4200 packaging". I'd be surprised if they do. There's no support for it on the Intel web site right now. I'd be surprised if they do support it. I haven't made a prediction about this, just noted that I'd be surprised if they do.

(3) I don't think that the html you linked to is a photo of a board that accepts RIMM4200s. The problem is that it has too many DIMM slots. I could be wrong (maybe they're using splitters), but why don't you check your data again:
vwalker.com

For an example of a legitimate PC1066 board using the 850E see:
tomshardware.com

Note that the above has only two DIMM slots, and that the two slots have no keys. Compare this to the image you linked in.

Hi h0db; Here's the page that you got that link from:

vwalker.com

If you'll notice, along with that one 850E board (which obviously doesn't use x32 RIMMs, but might support PC1066, though it doesn't say), there's an 845E, 845G, a microATX 845, an 845GL, and an 845GLL board. Pretty clear where the bulk of the volume is going. Unless you're into self-deception.

Like I said before, I don't know for sure that Intel isn't going to support PC1066, but I'd be surprised if they do. The funny thing is that Intel has already validated 14 PC800 RIMMs for use with the 850E chipset, but still doesn't have any PC1066 or RIMM4200 Rambus parts validated:

i850E supports PC800 RDRAM only?
Johan, AcesHardware, Febraury 27, 2002
Intel spokesmen have confirmed to us that the new 850-E chipset will feature a 533 MHz FSB but will support only PC800 RDRAM. According to Intel, PC1066 is too expensive right now, but Intel will keep evaluating the price/performance ratio of PC1066. Intel indicated that it is still possible that the i850E features PC1066 support when it will be launched (around June 2002).

We might compare this with Intel's timeline on support for DDR:

 Intel's rollout timeline for DDR:
Nov 6, 2001 i845 DDR benchmarks appear #reply-16616216
Nov 19, 2001 Intel validates DDR SDRAM #reply-16680406
Dec 9, 2001 i845 DDR boards for sale #reply-16768504
Dec 12, 2001 Intel: "DDR shipping early" #reply-16782675
Dec 18, 2001 Still no DDR rollout #reply-16803693
Jan 3, 2002 Intel announces DDR #reply-16861225

This is a more complete explanation for why I'm not sure that Intel will "support" PC1066 with the 850E.

P.S. Thanks to elixe on the TMF Rambus thread for the note that Intel has validated PC800 but not PC1066 on the 850E:
