Libby:

I didn't mention anything wishful, just reported on my opinion that the Oriental T-shirt saga would be good for foot traffic and bad for nothing. A prediction, that's all.

"ANF should be held to the same standards as other retailers."

"Should" is a great auxiliary verb but the truth is, it's very wishful and not much more. Bill Clinton was a big "should" (and "should not") guy: "No child should go to sleep hungry in America." "No one should fear for his safety in our cities."

I got one: "Kodiakbull should never have to suffer the indignity of a losing trade."

Belling the cat, nada mas.

It's a question of who will hold ANF to politically correct (or any other) standards. The left of center ACLU types don't want to dump on the partial nudity catalogue as child abuse or, heaven forbid, corruption of minors, in the interest of free speech. Wacky phrased shirts talking about buddha and laundries, though, I'm sure qualify as "hurtful" speech. But the teenagers won't care, in fact it will build a buzz. And the teen market they go after is way too old to be dictated to by their parents: they go to the Mall by themselves, often in their own cars (which Daddy or Step-daddy bought for them).
