A suggestion...

Test your system to be sure it's handling images correctly. If it is, the problem is at the other end.

My system came with countless .HTM files. Use FIND to locate them. Click a few. You should never get the red 'X' because the images referenced are local.

If you do get the red 'X', check the .HTM file with NotePad to be sure the image it's expecting to find exists.

A small box-circle-triangle icon is used as the placeholder for an image being downloaded. I assume you are talking about a big one. I have encountered that somewhere along the line, but I have no recollection what I was doing at the time, so I can't add anything there.

tc, re >"I can't get it" icon (red x) on IE< I just got one of these and on a hunch right clicked on it. The resulting pulldown menu had a choice "display picture". I chose it and the picture appeared. The site was WSJ and usually pictures display automatically there.
