Per capita gross domestic product has plummeted from $28,000 in 1981 to less than $7,000 today.

Imagine living in a country where everyone gets poorer. No wonder Saudis are so unhappy.

There is a great deal of oil in central Asia, but the problem is getting it to world markets. If you're interested in the area, there is lots of information here.

good story. Many people in the west don't realize how much weaker the OPEC org is now than it was in the 1970s. OF course in the case of saudi arabia that could lead to even further weakening of the ruling family's stability.
