National security is much better served by getting OFF oil now than in committing ourselves more deeply to the fuel source. Even Bush admits now that oil is not the fuel of the future. So let's start now by gradually replacing it. Now THAT my friend is national security.

I agree we need to get off oil. But unfortunately, it simply isn't practical to say, "well, we need to get off oil so let's do it today". Real life is more complicated. And the very thing that allows us to "get off oil" is the pressure that market forces bring to bear. THAT's real life.

Will however take time, courageous action, money and of course a new President.

What, on earth, did the previous administration do to reduce our oil consumption? Oil consumption skyrocketed in the eight years of Clinton-Gore. Crap.

You can bet John Kerry will get on this if and when he's elected. I predict he will be in 2004. Kerry-Edwards.

There is a fundamental problem with this scenario. Americans are not about to elect another lying Democrat. They have seen what eight years without leadership or integrity can do, and John Kerry is just more of the same.

While there will always be a core group of yellow dog Democrats, only this group will be foolish enough to fall for another liar like Clinton. It could be many, many years before we see another lying Democrat elected president. And that makes me very, very happy.

Politics is just the way things are done (fighting for votes and public opinion). The fact is, if it takes ten years to get oil out of ANWAR even if we started now (which thank God we aren't), then you could instead use that ten years and those 9 billion in Bush giveaways to Big Oil to start up an alternative fuels Marshall Plan to get us gradually off oil altogether, especially concentrating on hydrogen engines. It can be done and wil eventually have to be done so why not start now?

How much different are foreign policy could be if we weren't dependent on oil!! Well said.
