<<XBox is expensive as h*ll in Europe… $475 here in Denmark (>50% more than in the U.S., as far as I can tell), compared to just under $300 for the PS2.>>

Both are $300 in the states, though the game cube is $200.

fyo, You could say monopolyman meets free market competition. Wake up Mr Gates, knock, knock, knock.

MSFT was so used to their OSopoly that they ASSumed the same thing here.
The Xbox is protected everywhichway from system copying as well as Disc cloning, to make sure that everything is paid for in full.

Abuse of Europeans(with their lower disposable income) was the Kiss of Death for the Xbox.
Look at HP, they make nothing on inkjet printers, but the ink is pure gold.

So if MSFT is to make the box sell in Europe they must make it the same price or even lower than the USA.
MSFT's gravy is supposed to be on the game sales, so copy HP exact.

Now part of the siccess of the PS@ and other copyable games was the existence of chipped boxes and copies games. This increased the mass of players who would buy a box since game costs were lower(many stolen games). Still PS2 makes lots of money from the games they do sell as there will never be a point where all games are copied and zero sold.

Online gain has also helped since many now must pay a monthly fee for access to the servers and that is not copies=cash cow for game makers.

I wait for the Nextbox(tm)

Bill
