"competing for all storage markets now" "ability to connect just about all types of storage together" I appreciate your enthusiasm, but please provide some specific examples of NetApp products (not planned-future software) for your above statements. Veritas is also a storage-focused software company with a very nice product suite. Sun gunning for the same space. IBM is gunning for the same space. Hitachi is gunning for the same space. EMC is gunning for the same space. There are a bunch of start-up gunning for the same space. If you more carefully re-read my WAFL comments, you'll see that I mentioned Snapshots, and the fact that that feature was not unique to NetApp, and then went on to comment on the performance aspects of that product, since you seemed to feel that my earlier comments on that aspect were some kind of "doubletalk", and I wanted to expand my thoughts in that area for you. I note that you did not disagree with me, and in fact have not commented on it. Touching again upon the "connecting everything together" - I'm not sure if you you fully appreciate the enormity of that comment, and how, although it's a beautiful "blue sky" kind of vision, but it's far, far, far from happening. As a quick example - note the many problems that have existed in the past, and continue to exist, in connecting SANs. Much effort by many very smart people has been, and continues to be, expended on making them interoperate, and there's still a long way to go. It is unlikely that NetApp (or anyone else - I'm not picking on NetApp) is going to swoosh in the "The Solution" and make it better. Tell me, BD - what is your background? It would be helpful for me to better understand your comments in that context. Wishing everyone a great weekend, Steve
