Once again, all you silly people are working up charts and reads and takes. What's the point? It's predestined!

Stocks May Flip-Flop in Earnings Madness

By Denise Duclaux
Reuters

NEW YORK - Expect the stock market to flip-flop but finish the week flat, as a mixed bag of corporate earnings at the height of the first-quarter reporting season leaves investors scratching their heads.

There ya go. Expect it to finish the week flat. Let's just all go away and come back next week. See ya then!

Since triangle patterns always have 5 waves of 3

I think I showed us as being in wave E of the triangle, no?

I would suggest that you may want to consider using the lower points marked 4, A and B on your chart as the lower trend line. This would just consider 9/01 an overthrow.

I'm not too fussy on that trendline. Maybe there is a better wave count like the one that Stcgg posted that doesn't need a trend line unlike my triangle B wave proposal.

corrective action should stay within the bounds of wave 4

I don't think that is necessarily so. I think this is a wave 4 correction in the move out of the 1970s. With wave 1's top in 1987. So we just need to keep above the 1987 peak to avoid an overlap. I see the 1998 bottom as wave 4 in the move up from the 1990 bottom.
