What I heard about Venezuela is that the elected president wanted to tax the oil industry so Bush and Co. helped boot him. He only wanted 16% tax and they practically ran him out of the country. Another example of why we can't trust big oil when it gets institutionalized into the highest levels of our government. There at least have to be clear checks and balances. Jeffords proved there can be, but it took a major act of courage on his part to do this for us.
