Grace, Re: Risk averse

I have a different take on what happened - same as the 90's. Some people were paying for assets that were so far out of the norm that it did not make any sense to give these companies your capital. For example look at the prices of a lot of stocks today it is the same as in the early 30's. If you give these companies your money to use today you can not expect to get a return on you capital until 40 years from now. That is not investing and I am risk averse in that kind of an environment.

It only makes sense to me to give a company my capital when management can give me a "good" return on my investment. I should be able to get 10% per year for taking the risk.

<<The Depression was prolonged by people becoming risk averse in exactly the way that your parents did (mine too). >>

Naw... sorry... it was caused AND prolonged by those same people going hog wild in speculation and getting their behinds bit off. It is human nature that they wouldn't put their hands back on the hot stove!! Those that DIDNT burn their hands, got the bacon after the stove cooled off and everyone else left the kitchen!!! <NFG>

Believe me... the kitchen is still croweded with many waiting for the next "Brandy Soaked desert" to come out of the pan... I see lot's of liquor bottles being kicked about the floor and many of the "most agressive" partiers are indeed out on the lawn puking however. The party is about over.

<<The Depression was prolonged by people becoming risk averse in exactly the way that your parents did (mine too>> ... and therefore the depression may happen again, say first in Argentina, then Japan, and then, oh, it mayhave been the other way around. Chugs, Jay
