Tom,

<< Not sure what you are driving at here??? ... Unless you are on the 5105 MSM vs 5100 MSM difference. >>

No.

I'm not talking about the MSM5000, 5105, 5100.

I am talking about a handset, that I can take delivery of that provides always on packet data services, from a cdma carrier, at peak reates of 144 kbps, in the Americas.

I'm talking mass market services ... not phone as modem.

Please God Send Mobiles!

<< Though it is not clear how much of AWE's decision was based on the $10 billion from NTT. >>

AWS chose their migration path before the nice NTT contribution.

<< Cingular also had some GSM properties from SBC and that may also have pushed them toward the GSM direction. >>

Of course it did. SBC contributed PacBell, and Bellsouth contributed Bellsouth Mobility.

<< There is also the indication that Bell South was not a supporter of the move so it must have been close. >>

It was not close, and don't confuse BellSouth with BSI

<< Rogers- I don't know about >>

Well into their GPRS EDGE conversion.

Telcel just starting.

TIM making their move.

<< Still there are some going to CDMA, US Cellular and all indications suggest Nextel. There are also the Bell South Latin American properties as well as many recent LA announcements. >>

Nextel might be bought before they act, and that will determimne their fate. They are however active in 3GPP2.

I think BSI LA is pretty much a done deal for CDMA.

Meantime, GSM has gone big time in the Americas.

It is a totally different paradigm than it was 36 months ago.

Potential squandered for lack of an adequate platform.
