Petz, Ah yes, the cat startler. I made a Tesla coil a few years back, around 1958 and had it on the front room on the floor when I powered it up, standing well back.
It made a noise and the cat, who happened to be sunning in the window, was definitely startled and ran up the drapes and sat on the top. At this time a spark leapt to the metal drapery rod and the cat howled, fluffed up, leapt down and ran from the room. I turned it off and went to see for the cat.
She went upstairs and hid in the darkest corner of the attic. She did not seem to be physically harmed, but was very fluffed and her eyes were as wide as I have ever seen them, and she was totally terrified.
She has long passed away, but for the rest of her life she would never enter that room again.
Of course I also got some shocks and played the usual games. Even had the neighbours complaining about the TV interference. Those were the days.
