U.S. Asks Compaq to Save Documents By BLOOMBERG NEWS OUSTON, April 21 — The Securities and Exchange Commission has asked the Compaq Computer Corporation to save all documents related to its pending acquisition by Hewlett-Packard, a Compaq spokesman said on Friday. The spokesman, Arch Currid, said it was "an informal request." Hewlett-Packard said last week that the S.E.C. and the United States attorney's office in Manhattan were seeking information about stockholder votes on the deal by two big institutional shareholders, Deutsche Bank and Northern Trust. A Hewlett-Packard director and heir, Walter B. Hewlett, has sued the company, saying among other things that it coerced Deutsche Bank's support by threatening to withhold banking business. Compaq's chief executive, Michael D. Capellas, has said he is confident that the legal issues around the acquisition will be resolved in Hewlett-Packard's favor.
