8:40AM: The futures are pointing to a mixed open as earning reports are generally better than expected. Reporting upside surprises include AT&T Wireless (AWE 8.10), Kimberly-Clark (KMB 65.00), PepsiCo (PEP 52.83). Telecom has been disappointing lately, but Verizon (VZ 40.00) managed to report in-line results...It's not all good news as Exxon Mobil (XOM 41.85) misses consensus by 8 cents....Overseas, European stocks are slightly weaker as weakness in telecom equipment makers unable to offset the strength in the chipmakers. Asian stocks were mostly higher....Nothing on the economic calendar today....
Current indications: S&P 500 futures are +0.70, or 0.7 pts above fair value. Nasdaq 100 is -1.50, or 1.5 pts below fair value. Nas 100 PMI +1.39.
