I don't think Helen Thomas stated why she resigned from UPI, but she is liberal, and Moon's other outlets, e.g., Washington Times, have an overtly conservative slant.

After 40 Years At The White House, Helen Thomas Resigns coxnews.com

WASHINGTON -- Helen Thomas, the gritty yet gracious first lady of the White House press corps, resigned from United Press International on Tuesday, saying she would end her 57-year career with the struggling wire service rather than work under its new owners. . . .

UPI released a statement contending that the church has no formal ties to News World Communications and that UPI would remain an independent news service.

Thomas, though, was unequivocal.

"I have no plans to join the new UPI," she said in a statement read by her agent, Diane Nine.

"In anticipation of the sale of the old UPI, I cleaned out my desk at the White House several days ago," the statement continued.
