However, we have had US troops in the Sinai for 23 years and have not had many bad experiences. Its been pretty positive and both the Israeli's and Egyptians have been respectful.

The situation is completely different. There is a state on each side of the line, and a state that wants to keep the peace. No one is paying Egypt to keep up a stream of terrorist attacks on Israel; instead we are paying them $2 billion a year not to do any such thing.
