WCOM tanked the market because suppliers like JNPR and CSCO are so closely linked to telecom. But, I agree that other tech companies probably shouldn't have affected by WCOM. But, you know how it is. The market tends to trade more or less in tandem. Perhaps that type of thinking will bring the market back tomorrow.
