I do not see what could make you say I do not care about "those folks". I want a strong economy, good schools, and better policing of high risk areas, for example. I favor "enterprise zones", to encourage economic development in high risk areas; after- school activities, including tutoring and homework time, for latchkey children; vouchers to provide greater parental control over education; welfare- to- work programs, to teach elementary skills, like how to dress, how to behave in an interview, and how to budget time; I favor "homesteading", where people make nominal payments and gain title to a house through "sweat equity"; I am in favor of continuing the earned income tax credit, to help people and ensure that work is more attractive than welfare; I favor increased funding for drug and alcohol abuse programs, though I prefer the values- based kind; I think that the drug laws are too harsh, although I am not ready to give up on the War on Drugs just now; I am in favor of more halfway houses, to ensure that those on anti- psychotic medication do not falter and end up on the streets; and many other things we have not much discussed.
