Del, Honda has a new Civic that is a hybrid vehicle, has an 85cc engine augmented by an electric motor, gets 48 mph. Crash worthiness is an excuse like, not wearing seat belts can save you if the car catches on fire and belt locks up.

Delbert,

I was merely answering your statement: "Actually a study that I can't cite right now shows that there is little change in fatalities by driving fuel efficient cars. More Cheney/Bush propaganda."

I can't help it if the National Academy of Sciences published a report that does not agree with your hypothesis. Further, I don't believe I have ever said anything against hybrid technology, the (future) 42 volt electrical system in automobiles, or anything else bringing up fleet gas mileage averages (including decreasing vehicle weight). In fact, the benefit to me financially should be considerable, if hybrid or 42 volt becomes standard. I was merely pointing out that there is a cost (and it may be acceptable) of money and lives, associated with past efforts to increase national fuel economy.
