It is Way, Way, past the time for this POS to turn around, if VOD means anything, and is to fulfill its promise.

Concurrent currently has a total of 30 commercial VOD market deployment commitments with AOL Time Warner, Cox, Comcast, Cogeco, Mediacom, and Blue Ridge Communications. Concurrent has announced SVOD trials and launches in Columbia, Myrtle Beach, and Summerville, S.C., and Cincinnati, Oh. When the VOD announcement mailings first went out, the movie lineup was very skimpy. You could get Clint Eastwood in the Gauntlet, all of the current PPV offerings and maybe 30 or so additional titles. About a week later, when it was announced in the local paper, it seemed as though COX had increased the lineup to possibly 100 titles.

It appears as though Cox is being cautious, trying to avoid another Columbia, S.C. SVOD type of experience.

Content is what will make this go and the operators still have to get the studios on board. Rumor has it that more deals are in the works. It is surprising how supermarkets can rent videos for $1, yet the cable Co and studios can't make it happen for $2 on VOD.
