ASM International's Q1 sales sequentially slip 5%

BILTHOVEN, the Netherlands -- ASM International N.V. today reported a net loss of €12.2 million euros ($10.9 million) on net sales of €100.6 million ($89.5 million) in the first quarter of 2002. The Dutch semiconductor equipment supplier's sales were 5% sequentially lower than €105.6 million in the fourth quarter of 2001, when ASMI's net loss totaled €9.0 million.

ASMI said its first quarter bookings were €108.2 million, up 16% from the fourth quarter. The company's backlog was at €140.2 million, an increase of 6% from Q4.
