Microtune revenues up 14% from prior quarter, but loss increases

PLANO, Tex. -- Microtune Inc. today reported a 14% sequential increase in revenues to $18.2 million in the first quarter compared to $16.0 million in Q4 of 2001. Microtune said its sales were were 3% higher than $17.7 million in the first quarter last year.

Microtune's net loss for the quarter as $13.1 million compared to a loss of $5.5 million in Q1 of 2001. On a pro forma basis, excluding non-cash charges for stock option compensation and other items, Microtune's net loss was $7.0 million in the just-ended quarter vs. a pro forma loss of $5.3 million in Q4 of 2001.

"Q1 was a solid quarter for Microtune, and it is an indication that our business is strengthening," stated Douglas J. Bartek, chairman and CEO of the Dallas-area supplier of RF and mixed-signal integrated circuits.

The company said its cash, as of March 31, was $164 million, compared to $173 million on Dec. 31 and compared to $72 million on March 31, 2001.
