Elmer, Re: "I can't help but chuckle at the pundits over on the Mod thread who insisted Intel had poor yields and binsplits but at the same time AMD had "World Class Yields"."

But, Elmer, AMD has been able to launch processors already 20% faster than their previous generation. They are transitioning to 300mm wafers, and already achieved a 5% shrink on their .13u design. Now, they even have the excellent yields to transition this success to their server line of processors.

Intel, meanwhile, is almost a year later to market with their .13u process, and all they've been able to promise this quarter are parts that are less than 4% faster than their previous generation technology. 300mm wafers are years away, and the SOI hype seems to have stopped dead in its tracks. They paper launched (and vapor launched) a number of mobile processors recently, and have been unable to offer any sign of recovering in the short term.

Oh, wait. I have that backwards, don't I? Maybe the AMDroids made a similar mistake with their comments from the mod thread. <G>
