I always have a good time at Banner Marsh. It's actually several lakes that are reclaimed strip mines. Most of the ground where the coal is mined is very poor and not worth farming. No one would foot the bill to have had all these lakes dug if it wasn't for the coal.

Del just doesn't like to hear about coal because his retirement dollars are in wind stocks.

I can testify that in 30 to 40 years, without man lifting so much as a finger, the baron rock overburden mountains from iron mining in N. Minnesota turn into dense, lush forests.
