Just look at the ridiculous gap and runs we have had. Look at the past three months during options week or the week right before options expiration. Miraculously the market puts in huge runs in the middle of major downtrends. Max pain works.

Steve, I think you're tracking too many stocks. Mish says pain works best for: QQQ, CSCO, INTC, & MSFT.

See this post for more.

Steve you really need 20k+ options at a single strike for any reliability to kick in.

QQQ often exceeds 100K plus (10M shares interest), as does CSCO.

QQQ INTC CSCO MSFT have huge open interest.
If you figure out where those are headed you can usually but not always figure out other stuff. But the Semi-equips have been insane and EMLX etc often does its own thing.

QQQ INTC and CSCO hit pain on the nose during expiry week.
I was told but did not verify that max pain on MSFT had fallen to 55. If that is the case make it another clean sweep for da boys. Otherwise 3 out of 4 (with horrible news from MSFT) the only thing that prevented MSFT from hitting (if indeed it missed at all). BTW MSFT sure bounced hard of 55 where there were a ton of puts. Had that not been expiry week it would not have bounced.
